Two schemes that enable residents and community group to put on events in Trafford have been launched.

Trafford Council's Inclusive Neighbourhood Grant and Community Cohesion Grant schemes, provide residents and community organisations with the opportunity to apply for funding to deliver a community event or project.

Throughout 2020, £100,000 is available to residents and community groups through the Inclusive Neighbourhood Grant scheme.

Last year saw scores of groups benefit from the grants, which support residents to put on an event or deliver a project that brings people together, improves a local asset or showcases community strengths.

These include:

  • Everyone Can who were awarded £500 to host an extra special Halloween gaming session for disabled children.
  • Friends of Moor Nook Park, who were awarded £500 towards the cost of their sixth community fun day.
  • Hard Yards Running Club, who were awarded £2,000 for their Couch to k course in Stretford.

Grants will come in two sizes - up to £500 for events and up to £2,000 for projects.

£25,000 will be released every few months and the closing dates for each period of the grant scheme will be 30 April, 31 July, 31 October and 31 January 2021.

The grants will be awarded by a cross-party panel of councillors form across the borough.

In tandem with the Inclusive Neighbourhood Grants, Trafford Council are also launching the Community Cohesion Grant scheme with up to £30,000 available.

Voluntary and community organisations can apply for up to £5,000 to improve cohesion and inclusion in Trafford. The Trafford Partnership is looking for projects which enable understanding of different beliefs or cultures, build positive relationships, provide targeted engagement around issues such as hate crime, and build pride and strengthen communities.

With only one round of th Community Cohesion Grant scheme taking place, all applications must be received by 50m on Thursday 30 April. For more information visit the Trafford Partnership website.

Cllr Graham Whitham, Executive Member for Partnerships and Communities, said: "These two grant schemes provide a fantastic opportunity for communities to be able to come together.

"We were delighted that so many groups were able to take advantage of our grants last year enabling so many events to take place in our borough.

"Having thriving communities is a key priority in Trafford so I would urge any neighbourhood group putting on an event to apply and help increase pride in our wonderful Trafford communities."
